This existing mid-century home, is given new life by redefining the home around the existing courtyard. The clients felt that the house was not living up to its full potential and that some of the spaces felt compact for the overall square footage of the house. In exploring options for the home, we found several efficiencies that could expand and connect the primary living areas, all while expanding the bedroom spaces, and adding an extra bedroom, bathroom, and powder room. The house feels more expansive by accentuating a new cross-axis connection between the front and rear courtyards and the kitchen-living-dining spaces. Reinforcing the visual and physical connection between these spaces helps them to feel even larger, and gives a strong sense of flow and connection, while keeping the private spaces truly private.
